Professional Biography

Steve Bale is Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in conditions affecting the shoulder. Most of his practice is arthroscopic day case surgery for impingement, instability, rotator cuff disease and frozen shoulder. In addition he has an interest in arthritis of the shoulder and performs shoulder replacement surgery for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid and rotator cuff related degenerative disease. He also has specialist skills in trauma surgery and sports injury management."

Mr Bale obtained his medical degree from St Andrews University in Scotland and Manchester Medical School. His post-graduate training was in the north west region, initially as registrar and subsequently as University lecturer in orthopaedic surgery. He was a Sir Harry Platt Research Fellow. Took up consultant appointment in Preston in 1996 and introduced arthroscopic shoulder surgery to Preston. He widely travelled to share shoulder surgery experience in Europe and the US. He is a regular panel member for international arthroscopic shoulder courses. Active in research and post-graduate orthopaedic training. He is currently Programme Director for training in Trauma and Orthopaedics North West Deanery. He is an Intercollegiate Examiner for FRCS (Orth).
