Professional Biography

Mike specialises in all aspects of shoulder surgery. He has a particular interest in advanced arthroscopic (keyhole) techniques for shoulder surgery and sports injuries. He also specialises in joint replacement surgery of the shoulder including total joint replacement and resurfacing, reverse shoulder replacement and revision surgery. Mr Walton is on the specialist register for Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery. 

He grew up in Manchester before attending Nottingham Medical School. He underwent higher surgical training on the Bristol Rotation and was awarded fellowship in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery in 2009. He developed an interest in sport injuries early in his career and was awarded a Masters degree with Merit from the University of Bath in Sports and Exercise Medicine. Mike travelled to Perth for sub-speciality fellowship training where he worked with some of the world’s leading pioneers in tendon pathology at the University of Western Australia. He was involved in the management of elite athletes and soldiers and developed his keyhole and open surgery techniques. He is actively involved in research and has published numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and has presented work both nationally and internationally. He is currently an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Orthopaedics and Sports Science at the University of Salford and the University of Western Australia.
